of furthering scientific understanding and educating the public about the benfits of sustainable management practices for   the Turneffe Atoll and other coastal marine areas. FOTA has mininmal administrative costs so that nearly 100% of contributed funds go to conservation, education and research projects.

The demands of population growth and expanding coastal development are causing serious damage to coastal marine habits throughout the world.  Destructive devopment practices, unsustainable commercial fishing and over-develpement are depleting coastal resources. . New and innovative approaches are needed now to

sustain the biological and economic value of

coastal marine habitats including Belize's Turneffe Atoll.

Conserving the fragile coastal habits of the Turneffe Atoll will provide sustainable economic benefits for the citizens of Belize and throughout the World.. Through scientific research, and education, appropriate sustainable management practices can be determined and institured to ensure that the Turneffe Atoll will be protected for future generations.
